How to send mirror camera view to other participants on Zoom using OBS Studio virtual camera

There is an option to switch your view i.e. what you see yourself as in Zoom but there isn’t a direct way to change what other participants see you as.

I used to use Snap Camera to send a flipped view of my image to other participants but I can’t anymore, as Snap discontinued their app.

After searching for a while, I found another software you can use to achieve similar functionality. It’s called OBS Studio. It’s free to download and it’s open source, so you don’t need to worry about privacy or security.

There is a feature in OBS Studio that let’s you use your laptop camera as a virtual camera. And by doing that, you can apply a transform effect for your video on OBS Studio and then broadcast that through virtual camera feature. It might seem complex but it’s actually simple.

Once you download OBS Studio, click the ‘+’ icon in the sources section to add a ‘video source’. Select your laptop camera as the ‘device’.

Once you do that, a ‘video capture device’ will be added to sources and you should be able to see yourself in the view screen section. You need to drag your video to fill the entire resolution.

After doing that, click on the ‘video capture device’ and then right click, a menu will appear. Select ‘transform’ and then ‘flip horizontally’. This should flip your camera view to appear in a mirrored view. Now all you need to do is click on ‘start virtual camera’ at the bottom right side.

Once you open zoom, under camera devices, you should see ‘OBS virtual camera’, just select that and you mirrored video will appear to you and to everyone else.

Note: If you previously enabled ‘mirrored video’ option in Zoom, disable that as the video is already mirrored, it will undo that.
